MARCELA BARNICA OLIVAR - 2 THE STORY CONTINUES:
So you get into marketing Powerhouse Bombshells and start up your record label Powerhouse Music Records then what?
Well the beginning was my focus on investing which came from the hard work and the fashion design background that I have, I negotiated the process from Vieta to Forever 21 and handled many accounts that were handled on a global market (like the handbag purse you see pictured) that did well on the market. It took me some sacrifice to make my vision come true. Marketing and promotions was easy for me as it was right there just a major part of my skills and with a good and clever team, truly worked. I set my sights on developing an independent label (Powerhouse Music Records) and pushed for my understanding the business,how it works and all the paperwork involved with everything else which would follow, it has been a blessing as I continue to learn and develope as a record label owner.
Do you have any dislikes?/your pet peeves*
Yes........I do not like how the music business has changed as we may think it has been for the better but it has truly taken it's toll in many ways, convenience is not always best and many artists have suffered because of it..........oh and another dislike is the way technology has made our kids so lazy today (*"Absolutely", "I have to agree")
Who do you admire most? (overall)
I do have to say that Lisa Lisa has truly been a great influence as well as Crazy Legs, Melo Man Ace and others but Lisa I have to say had a major impact on my life, from my hair and clothes to our friendship and how it moved me as a person. We today have built a bond that is unparallel and her strength and power as a woman in this business has helped me stay grounded.......I admire her gift and power.
Tell us about some of the artists that are a part of the Powerhouse Bombshell team?
Let me tell you that projects are in full swing as we have cut "Yo Te Amare" and turned out the video for the single for Remmy Palacios (formally of Nice & Wild *a dance/freestyle group). It's not to difficult when the artists that are a part of your team and label are extremely talented. Remmy has just been recently aired on CNN Latino and performed on National Television. He resides in Miami and left Vegas as much of his work is set forth out of Florida. Remmy is also in production and writing for Alyssa Jordan (niece of Lisa Lisa) and Alyssa is being vocally coached by legendary singer Brenda K Starr, she has been in recovery from surgery less than a year ago and is doing very well. She will be a force to be reckoned with. Nelson Ruiz (brother of iconic salsa singer Frankie Ruiz) is if full development of projects and is always working, as well as Juan"Tiny"Colon who has shown just the surface of what he is going to bring to the table and will be as powerful as his relative in this business (Willie Colon). Marla G (aka Giggles) continues to work on music and performs on a regular basis, she will also co-host with me on Legends Of Freestyle show that will include guest like Louie*The Barrio Boyz*, Tony*Tka*, his daughter and recording artist Brooke Penning and my girl Nyasia*freestyle music legend* It is going to be a blast. Marla has just released a single that she collaborated with Freddie"The Edit" Rivera as well. Boogalo Shrimp is constantly on the move and occasionally joins us as well as covers all aspects of the performing arts world he grew up doing. My young protege and future star Daury Blue (from the Dominican Republic) is being focused on and will be in production soon. RIK Indio has his work and projects out there and just released "El Tiempo Sin Ti" so check it out. I almost forgot to mention that Trinere is back and better than ever. She now resides in the West Coast so watchout everyone. ROK (Rhyme Over Krime) has really so much to bring and is always ready to explode at any time. His energy can be felt throughout. He will be heard and we have come to realize that. Valeria Gitana Urbana has put out projects and is currently working on some fantastic music. I am now working with a name that you will hear for years to come and this very talented person is Jay Chris as well as Vikki Romero (la dama de la salsa) which I will give you all his and her information as I receive it. I need to mention the several new members to our team as recently we have brought in the iconic legends of a sound that is a magnet to our souls and they are Planet Patrol(known for the movement and put out great hits like "Play It At Your Own Risk" & "Cheap Thrills". Johnny O has also joined our team and just recently cut a collaboration with Planet Patrol titled "The Challenge", in which we have just wrapped up on shooting the video for, I was asked (by Herb Jackson,Andre Devine,Wally Butler & Johnny Ortiz)for the single to be released under Powerhouse Music Records and was taken back when asked to be apart of this great project. The Real Roxanne has joined us and she can bring it as hard as ever*(Marcela speaks with excitement and proud of what has been developing).
What are some of your current projects?
I tell you that it has been nonstop busy and there are some days that are harder and more challenging than others but the results keep me going strong and besides I'm living out my dream. I am currently doing several shows on Legends Of Freestyle(Feb. 14th and the 21st as well), promoting and marketing...........always as the Feb. 14th show is going to be awesome. The release of two videos and keeping Powerhouse Bombshells moving all the time. I now have a video production team out of Miami and just excited for what is going on makes me pinch myself to see if it's all real........trust me,..it is!!!!!(we laugh). I have to mention that I have just agreed to join you guys and accept the marketing director job for Unidos Magazine, knowing that what Rio Lopez has developed will be huge and groundbreaking. I am business and know what directions I see transpire throughout, and besides ........you guys gave me my own page, can't say no to that.(we laugh). I am also focused on my health and five months ago when Alyssa Jordan went through her operation it allowed me to evaluate life as we know it and I made a promise to myself that if this young talented child can overcome her situation and comeback the way she has than I can ovrcome my obstacles and take care of me, so I started doing zumba classes and the results have been amazing. The blood,sweat and tears have given me a new outlook and I feel great. I want to take this time and also mention the loss of my uncle to cancer recently and acknowledge my uncle who was very dear to me. I would always try and find the time when I traveled to Florida to spend time with him and his family over in Port St.Lucie, Florida. he was there when I was 10yrs old and took the time to teach me how to ride a bike and was a great company to have in my life.......for that I miss him dearly......rest in peace Roy Valasquez.

Tell us about the charities that you are involved with?
I have been involved with several charities over time. Several years ago I became a sponsor and supporter of Crazy Legs (Rock Steady Crew) and the annual work he has done for the urban youth and have been a contributor of his cause. He has done so much for our youth through dance and that I focus on. I akso have became involved with a project with several artists like Reggie (who was also with the group Nice & Wild), Nelson Ruiz & Remmy, that was heart warming for me.... it was a Toy For Tots and The Iris Blossom Charities that Sharice Rodriguez heads up and takes us right into the urban neighborhoods and a local church to help the needy and homeless This summer I will be involved with your Freestyle Old-Timer's Day Reunion and Cancer Awareness Annual Event in New York City
What would you like to say to our readers and as a conclusion to your interview, what would you leave as a message to all the young girls and women wanting to know about achieving and reaching there goals in life?

This has been a long and awaited interview and the message is clear, that we have to stand up and break through all of the stereotype and walls that have been set in place for women to achieve there dreams and goals. When I was a kid and had the doors set in place I could see beyond them doors and knew that someday I would make a difference in not just my life but in the lives of others. When my brother was out there playing music and I was there experiencing everything around me, I knew that it would someday be lived out through those experiences. The obstacles meant nothing as the hard work paid off. Music is my life and if it would take me on the path of the same journey that I have been fortunate to have ......I would do it all over again, the same way as my life has come full circle. I was born in 1973(the same year hip hop was born), I went to a park in the bronx as a young girl and was introduced to the world of the hip hop movement by no other than Crazy Legs who would be there and I would be moved and motivated by the Rock Steady Crew icon, I would come across every aspect of the many artists that I admired as a child and they today have crossed my path once again, Mellow Man Ace,Lisa Lisa,Full Force,Planet Patrol,Boogaloo Shrimp,Trinere,Remmy,Nelson,Rob Base,Shannon,The Real Roxanne,Kango,..etc........To all the dreamers.....please keep on dreaming,to those who believe in themselves, please keep pushing yourselves to the limit. You cannot get there without sacrifice and some blood,sweat and tears but the prize will be waiting for you and you just have to keep reaching out for it. Never let no one tell you that because you are a woman, that you cannot achieve that dream and make it a reality. I am living proof that if you really want it, you can achieve it.
Do you have any shout outs and thanks out there?
which brings Awareness and reunites many cancer survivors and past residents to East Harlem(spanish harlem) for a day of fun,games and entertinment for so many(July 26, 2014 from 9am til 6pm-eastern standard time). Giving back is so important to me .....it really keeps me grounded and humbled. It has been a spiritual uplifting to give of my time for those less fortunate.
